Tanzania

Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater region are home to an astounding array of animals, from miniature dik-dik antelopes and lions to the noble African elephant. With local guides and all of your needs taken care of, head on a number of game drives in search of the Big Five in the back of specially designed safari vehicles.

Explore the Serengeti National Park in depth with on overland vehicle with two early-morning and two late-afternoon game drives through this spectacular wildlife arena, you’ll have the best chance to spot the Big Five.

Embark on an unforgettable safari across the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater in an open-roof 4WD with your small group for a chance to see the endangered black rhinoceros in full view. Learn about the Maasai cultures, and join a local community for a guided afternoon stroll around the farming area of Mto wa Mbu, before enjoying a traditional meal together.

Swap the safari vehicle for two wheels on a guided biking adventure near Lake Victoria, stopping to shop for local wares and meet townsfolk at the Mwigobero Market. Your expert local crew will keep you well informed filling you in on all you need to know about the Great Rift Valley and the annual migration of some two million wildebeest.

Kenya

When you talk about Kenya, you’re talking about the Masai Mara. When you head off on our Masai Mara Safari you will discover why it is one of the greatest and most popular wildlife reserve in East Africa. It is famous for its incredible abundance of wildlife and big cats such as lion, leopard and cheetah.

Another wildlife draw card is the annual migration of masses of the 1.5 million wildebeests, zebra, and Thomson’s gazelle. The animals cross from the Serengeti through the crocodile infested Masai Mara River. The local Masai Mara tribe also have a fascinating culture and they take pride in sharing their knowledge and traditions with visitors to the area.

We go ahead to visit Amboseli National Park. The wildlife is outstanding, but it’s given an added sense of grandeur by the killer Kilimanjaro views. It is almost the signature image of the African safari – an elephant grazing in the greener-than-green swamp grasslands in the center of the park with perfectly proportioned Mount Kilimanjaro behind. Africa’s highest mountain may lie in Tanzania, but easily the best views of the mountain are from Amboseli, especially in the early morning and late afternoon. With our overland vehicle we cross to Uganda the Pearl of Africa.

Uganda

A close encounter with gentle giants on a mountain gorilla safari in Uganda is an extraordinary experience that will always stay with you and it’s just one of the many wildlife sightings this unforgettable trip. Traverse the verdant plains, rain-forests, papyrus-fringed lakes and acacia woodlands of Kenya and Uganda’s game parks, from Queen Elizabeth National Park. Spot lions, chimps, antelopes, hippos, leopards and more in their natural habitats. The staggeringly beautiful African landscape will provide memories that last a lifetime.

With permits included in your trip, take a trek through Uganda’s steamy forests to seek out rare mountain gorillas and spend an unforgettable hour in their presence with the help of expert Rangers and trackers.  Spend a few days at your own pace in Jinja, which can be a relaxing riverside retreat or an adrenaline-pumping adventure capital – depending on your mood.

Take the optional excursion of visiting the chimpanzees of Kalinzu Forest this morning or enjoy the sounds of the forest from the comfort of your tent. More closely related to humans than any other living creature, the chimpanzees are a delight to watch as they squabble and play in fruiting trees.

Later, take the short drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Once camp is set up there’s an option to take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, well-known for pelicans, eagles and other wonderful birdlife, as well as a healthy population of hippos.

Joined by a local ranger and gorilla trackers, climb through the rugged mountain terrain of Bwindi National Park to encounter rare gorillas. No more than eight people per day can visit any one habituated family and visits are strictly controlled to minimize disturbance or the chances of transmission of disease to the animals. Tracking gorillas in the dense forest can sometimes be wet, muddy and uncomfortable.

The terrain is by no means easy either, so it can be quite strenuous and often humid, but the sheer thrill in coming across a habituated group of gorillas, dominated by a great male silverback, more than outweighs any difficulty. You need to be prepared and fit enough to walk up to four hours –up and down hills.

You can usually get very close to the mountain gorillas, who are placid and gentle, and watching their movements is like seeing a mirror image of yourself.

Be mesmerized as you watch them eat, sleep, groom and play the giant silverback surveying the scene as the smaller ones laze in the trees or play like children. Your visit with the gorillas will last one unforgettable hour. Book with 4×4 Car Hire Uganda for all your overland trips in East Africa.
