How to Drive Across Africa

To all those wishing to visit Africa with an aim of going for a self drive its advisable to follow or inquire from reliable Africa companies for some tips on how to drive while in Africa, in Africa most of the countries have differing rules and conditions regarding road usage in terms of safety. Countries like Uganda, inquire from reputable Uganda Car Rental agencies that will advise you and here drivers are advised to keep left while driving where as a country like Rwanda the reverse is true, not only the driving side but even the speed is limited in some places including those with and without towns. For instance 50km/hr and 80km/hr is the recommended speed driven in towns and the later on highways where there is no towns.

A driving license is too crucial in all the African countries and driving without a permit calls for an a fine specifically as outlined in that country’s traffic laws, in Africa some countries are politically stable with minimum conflicts and this guarantees security to the clients who travel to the different parks as their itinerary stipulates. Its very hard to just land to the African continent and request for a vehicle before prior preparations or booking with a serving company. This is because Africa is one of the greatest continents in the world that is blessed with a number of tourism destinations and therefore many visitors enjoyed this while on self drive safaris hence vehicles that belongs to rental companies are always in the field especially in the peak season.

Companies like 4×4 car hire Uganda has got a fleet of cars that can be chosen depending on the client’s preference and these included Prado, Land cruisers TZ and V8, safari van, super custom, Rav4s and coasters all at a varying rate with low fuel consumption level, with soft seats, GPS and travel maps on request and at an affordable extra coast, well insured and with a 4×4 wheel which enables to travel in the muddy parks during rainy season.

Since I wanted to visit Uganda, I also partnered with this company which rented me a Rav4 and just to share a little with this company, I was given considerable agreement to sign before taking the vehicle at the airport and I was told to pay in cash which I did. But before I proceeded I made sure that I get all the receipts for the lodges that were booked on my behalf by nature adventure Africa safaris. I started my journey to Jinja which is approximately 80km from Kampala and this took me almost 2hours on the way due to the several junctions causing a lot of jam.

My major aim in Jinja was basically to do water rafting, since I partnered with Raft Uganda, everything that was to be used in the activity was provided on the charges I paid but it wasn’t expensive we rafted till the sun set since I paid for the all day, surprisingly before and after rafting we were given edibles and drinks as we were picked from the stopping point back the starting point where we had left our belongings. I got my vehicle and I drove to Nile Hotel Jinja where I slept and the next day I toured Jinja city including the Speke monument around the source of the Nile, Kakira sugar works and proceeded to Jinja Rippon where Bujagali falls and the newly constructed bridge including the electricity generation dam.

I spent another overnight in Jinja since it’s a nice looking city that inspires to stay in because of its good planning, the next day I traveled back to Kampala in my vehicle but due to the fact that I had to go back for work, I returned the vehicle to the owners as I appreciated to visit the three east Africa countries including, Uganda again, Kenya and Tanzania colleagues on a self drive safari as I will arrange with Moses and this time I will invite my colleagues to also travel to Africa.
